1997 Mitsubishi Mirage - No heat from heater.

Hi Steve,

I have a 1997 Mitsubishi Mirage, Last winter the heater was working fine and this summer the A/C was also working fine. Now, as the weather is turning colder the heat will not get warm except for coming in short bursts while the car is idling?

The repair manual suggested checking the coolant level and it was fine! No repairs have been done to the car other than a tune-up and oil change have been done. What could be the problem with my heater?

Thanks for the help,

Derrick

Hi Derrick,

The most common problem here would be the heater core or heater hose. If the heater core or heater hose is partially plugged then you will have a no heat from the heater.

If the coolant level is good and the engine is not overheating then I think you have a blockage in the heater core or hoses.
Feel the heater hoses when the engine is hot and running. They should both be hot. If one is hot and the other is almost cold then you have a plugged heater core and it will need to be replaced.

If you have any more questions on this or any other problems please let me know.
