1997 Ford Expedition, Front A/C is warm - Rear is cold.

Hi Steve,

I have a 1997 Ford Expedition, this truck had both front and rear air ,.the rear air is blowing cool air, the front air is blowing hot air.

Sometimes when I start the truck, the front air blows cool for a while, then you can hear a little noise like a valve closing ,and it starts blowng hot again.

What do you think the problem could be?? Any help would be great!

Hi Lynndy,

There are a couple of things here that can be causing your problem. First of all you need to have the system checked for the proper freon level, if the system is low on freon it can cause this kind of problem with front and rear a/c systems.

You could have a problem with the expansion valve in the system, this could be the noise you are hearing or you could be hearing a temperature door moving behind the dash when it is not supposed to be moving, this also can cause the a/c to blow warm.

When you have the system checked for proper freon they will also check the expansion valve for proper operation. If everything is good with the freon then they will look at the tempurature and mode doors to make sure they are working properly.

A basic a/c check should cost anywhere from $50 to $100 depending on where you go, be aware A/C problems are an easy target to be "taken" at a repair shop! Go somewhere with a good reputation and avoid the low price A/C checks because those repair shops get you in the door and the sell you something you don't need!

If you are unsure of what they tell you always get a second opinion, it will be worth the money. You can call several repair shops and get a price on an A/C test , call the dealer as well and compair their price also. You can usually get a good idea if you will like the repair shop/dealer just by talking to them on the phone.

If you have any questions after you get a diagnosis please let me know!

Thanks for the question

Steve
