2003 Ford Expedition, clicking noise from rear air condition.
Hi Steve,
I have a 2003 Ford Expedition, this truck had
both front and rear air ,the rear a/c started making a clicking sound. The
air is cold and the front makes no noise.
What do you think the problem could be?? Any help would be great!

Hi Randy,
Without hearing the noise it can be very difficult to determine what is
causing the noise but I can give you some ideas on what it could be.
The fact that it is blowing cold is a good thing in this situation.
The rear a/c has a valve called a "thermal expansion valve" This
valve opens and closes when needed and I have seen these valves cause a
clicking noise, usually it is a rapid noise. If the valve is making noise
then the valve could be going bad or it may just need some freon in the
system. A lack of freon can cause a noise from the "txv" valve.
The second thing is a bad mode or temperature door actuator could be causing
a clicking noise from the rear a/c evaporator case. These actuators are
very common problems of clicking noises.
If your mechanic can hear the noise he should be able to determine the
cause easily.
