1999 Chevrolet Lumina - Red fluid leak from transmission.

Hi Steve,

My 1999 Chevrolet Lumina has a red fluid leak from under the car. What could this be and what should I look at? Any suggestions would be a great help.

Thanks,

J.

Hi J.

A redish oil is usually transmission fluid, so you probably have a transmission leak.

Usually most transmission leaks are just a minor problem, but you need to have this checked so a minor problem will not become a major one later.

Check the transmission fluid with the engine HOT and running on a level surface. If the fluid is low then add the proper amount. Your car uses

Dextron II or Dextron III, either one will work fine. Your local parts store will give you the correct fluid..

I hope this is a help to you .

Thank you for your car repair question.
